Having a child that is considered overweight or obese can be quite upsetting. An obese child may get teased or bullied and often suffer from lack of self-esteem. As parents, we owe it to our children to make sure they live the best life possible. It is our responsibility to make sure they eat right, exercise and enjoy their childhood.
Statistics show that most overweight children have overweight parents. When you are an overweight parent and the trend is continuing with your child, you have a lot of internal and external work to do. You understand the plight of being overweight. You understand how it feels to be treated differently and the last thing you want is for your child to experience the ignorance that is called bullying! You know how difficult it is to do something as simple as tying your shoe. You know you have to get help for you and your child. Yet, you don't know where to start.
The first thing a person sees when they look at an obese child is their appearance. Having clothing that makes them feel good about themselves, while you work on getting them the help they need to lose the weight and become healthy, can boost their self-confidence. Clothing is in nowise a fix all. It is more like a bandage until you're able to get the real work done.
Boosting your child's self-confidence will start them on the road to feeling better about themselves. This, will make them more receptive to eating right and exercising. Loosing weight is a long, hard road. Don't fool yourself, there is no magic trick to make it happen. Even if you use medical methods, the way your child relates to food will have to change in order to maintain any weight loss.
